About Us

Hello! I'm Bob Eames, and this is my company. I've been hunting and fishing the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon since 1978. In the Fall of 2000, I returned to my  boyhood love of Waterfowl hunting after a long hiatus in which I got married, had kids, and got and education.

I started calling ducks after witnessing the amazing skills of a couple of friends that took me out hunting on the Summer Lake Wildlife Area near Paisley, Oregon. I was amazed at thier ability to draw the birds into their decoy spread time after time. I was hooked, and soon after bought my first duck call. I practiced all through the year, and worked with friends to learn how to read the birds and use the call to lure birds into our decoy spread. In 2002, I was invited on a goose hunt in one of our local grass seed fields and was introduced to my first short reed goose call. Again, I was hooked and bought my first short reed. After a year of practicing and learning to use the call effectively, I began hunting with a small group of locals that traveled all over the Pacific Northwest in search of the best waterfowl hunting they could find. Many of us had special talents that we used to increase our odds, such as repainting or modifying decoys, fabricating blinds, carts, duck boats, and adapting already great products to fit our local hunting conditions. It was great hunting, and we were always working hard to stay one step ahead of everyone else to give us the advantage.

I stared playing with my calls, swapping gut sets, retuning, and swapping call parts from call to call to fit a specific need. Soon, I began buying calls just for parts to get what I wanted. After a spectacular goose hunt one day we were waiting to check our geese at a local check station, and I was introduced to a local callmaker named Dave Miller. I started a friendship with Dave, and he showed me the basics of how he turned and assembled his calls. Soon after, I bought an old Craftsman wood lathe and a box of mismatched tools and started learning my way through making calls.

After what seemed like an eternity, I found the Custom Calls Online forum, which allowed me to connect with some of the finest craftsmen in the game call industry. After pouring over the forums and spending alot of time in the shop, I finally honed my skills enough to start producing calls that I was happy with. In June of 2004, I started Eames Custom Calls. I produced about 60 calls my first year, learning something new with every call. After a couple of contest wins, I started honing down a limited product line that was the best of the best. I still test every call design for a full year before I sell it to anyone, making sure that any call you buy for your lanyard has proven itself on mine as well. I never charge for a call tuning because I believe that by buying one of our calls, you are purchasing my expertise to help your call stay in top working order.

I spend time every year trying to give back to a sport that has given me so much. I do a special youth hunt every year, donating a call for every kid who hunts. I do calling seminars to help out customers and friends, and have done call tuning seminars and callmaking demonstrations at The Oregon Waterfowl Festival for the last several years. I donate calls to Delta Waterfowl, local charity auctions, and worthy events all over the United States. I truly believe that waterfowl hunting is like a rose bush, in that without work and sacrifice it will wither and die, although with hard work and perseverance it will blossom and stay healthy for generations to come.

  Thanks for stopping by!

Bob
