These are the people that keep Eames Custom Calls running. These are the kind of waterfowlers your mother warned you about, and your father tells storys about when your mom isn't around. They are the kind of hunters that will travel hundreds of miles through the worst weather imaginable to hunt the newest migrators. This page is a tribute to these men, women, kids, and dogs that are the reason we build calls to survive anything mother nature can throw at us.
Hoss Rossner
Leonard "Hoss" Rossner has been with us since the beggining, and one of the finest callers in the state. Although Hoss is big enough to take on a bull moose, he's got the knack for softly finishing birds that brings the mallards to a dead stop over the decoys. Hoss is also an accomplished machinist, building most of the one off tooling we use to create our calls. The most memorable experince I can remeber about Hoss is watching him smack a Mallard at almost 80 yards after 4 others had emptied thier guns. He is an incredible shot, and a great friend to all.
Dan Borden
Dan Borden is one of those guys that you never would picture to be a rabid, frothing at the mouth, waterfowl hunter. During the workday, Dan masquerades as a mild mannered software programmer with a halo over his head. On the weekends, the wings fall off and Dan becomes a man possesed with the drive to hunt anthing edible that flies south. Eames Custom Calls started off in Dan's garage, so you could say he's a founding father. The most memorable experience I've had with Dan was the first time we went fishing together and I explained my "rules" to him. When I got to rule #2 "I don't put fish in my pocket" Dan laughed for hours. He is a good friend, a great waterfowler, and will always have a place in my blind.
Ryan Eames
Ryan Eames has grown up around the shop, becoming one of the best callers in our group. His abilities with a single reed are amazing considering his young age, but his attention to detail and ever improving turning skills are evidence of the bright future here at Eames Custom Calls. His sharp wit and great sense of humor always adds color to the dreariest of hunts. My most memorable experience with Ryan was the day we sent him out to band check a cackler that a peregrine falcon had pulled out of a wad of scared cacklers that were circling our decoys. Ryan ran out, stopped, ran back, and shouted "That bird is really pissed!" We all rolled with laughter! He's a great kid, and I am proud to have him as my son.
Del Westover
Del has been one of my friends and mentors since the beggining. Del has loaned us gear, guns, decoys, vehicles, and ammunition since our first hunt with him in the marshes of Summer Lake Wildlife Area in 2000. Del always has a knack for being better prepared for the hunt than anyone else, and has been known to pull a honey hole out of his pocket when no other area is productive. Del gives back to the waterfowling community by supporting Delta Waterfowl, Ducks Unlimited, and many other local waterfowl non-profit organizations. My most memorable experience with Del was the first hunt I ever had with him. We were out in the dark in one of the marshes at Summer Lake when Del slipped getting over to his spot and went in. We laughed like crazy hearing him cuss and finally get settled. Then, as we sat in the cold, Del kept trying to entice us to come over his way with soft chants of "I have coffee...." and "Boy, is this coffee good". We never did try our luck, but the entire morning was a riot. Del is a great freind, and an amazing hunting partner and I look forward to many more enjoyable hunts with him. |
